Fake off
Building critical information literacy and skills for countering online disinformation.
About the project
Swarmcheck's role
As part of the class, young people are educated in the use of the Swarmcheck system to map arguments and critically analyse information found on the Web. The learning of the system is rewarded through the use of a badge system in the Open Budges format, which is awarded for further educational progress.
Through the use of the Swarmcheck system, young people gain the opportunity to visualise the logical relationships between the arguments analysed. Analysis of complex content becomes easier, which increases resistance to manipulation and logical fallacies.
An innovative programme for developing competencies of the future (especially critical thinking, information analysis, correct argumentation, and information verification), for young people in Warsaw. It aims to contribute to the development of the social dimension of fake news immunity and an online discussion and rational argumentation culture. The project aims to provide the youth with the skills necessary to efficiently navigate the Internet jungle of information, accurately assess its reliability, and make rational decisions.
The methodology of working with young people has been developed upon the experience of previous educational projects conducted by the Optimum Pareto Group, such as Myśl jak naukowiec ('Think like a scientist'), Jawne komplety (lit. 'Overt underground education'), or W 7 dni dookoła nauki ('Around science in 7 days').
